RAD to Demonstrate Intelligent Ethernet Demarcation at SUPERCOMM

Service Level Differentiation over Packet Switched Network is
Ideal Solution for Business Connectivity

25th May 2005: At the upcoming SUPERDemo, to be held under the auspices of the Metro Ethernet Forum (MEF) at SUPERCOMM 2005 in Chicago, RAD Data Communications will demonstrate a solution that will allow carriers to provide different levels of Ethernet service for business customers over an Ethernet backbone.
RAD's ETX intelligent Ethernet-over-fibre device provides a clear demarcation point between user and provider networks when using Ethernet in the Local Loop, guaranteeing end-to-end control up to the customer premises. "Carriers are now designing different services for enterprise customers – delay sensitive, error sensitive data and best effort data, for example – over new packet-switched networks," explains Jacky Acoca, Business Development Manager at RAD Data Communications. "These services will necessitate different Quality of Service (QoS) guarantees in order to be provisioned," Acoca continues. "By connecting the ETX to the MEF's Ethernet core at SUPERDemo, carriers will be able to see how they can offer services such as inter-office LAN connectivity, Internet access and video while providing different levels of service quality guarantees."

Second Generation TDMoIP ASIC

At SUPERDemo, RAD will also demonstrate its evaluation board for its second generation TDM over IP (TDMoIP) pseudowire ASIC. Fully compatible with RAD's current TDMoIP ASIC, the second generation ASIC will comply with all the TDM over pseudowire standards of the ITU-T, IETF, MEF and MFA Forum, and offer additional features and enhancements. The ASIC provides clock recovery complying with the G.823/824 jitter and wander requirements of the traffic and synchronisation interfaces. Samples will be available this November.
Developed by RAD and introduced to the market in 1999, RAD's patented TDMoIP technology transparently transports circuit switched traffic, including signaling, over packet switched networks.

About The Metro Ethernet Forum

The Metro Ethernet Forum is a global industry alliance comprising of more than 70 organisations including telecommunications service providers, network equipment/software manufacturers, semiconductor vendors and testing organisations. The MEF's mission is to accelerate the worldwide adoption of carrier-class Ethernet networks and services. The MEF develops carrier Ethernet technical specifications and implementation agreements to promote interoperability and deployment of carrier Ethernet worldwide.
