Miniature Bridge Provides Fast Ethernet Connectivity

RAD Data Communications Introduces TinyBridge-100 for Fast Ethernet Bridging

Adds 10/100 Mbps Ethernet Bridge Functionality with Transparent VLAN Forwarding

TinyBridge-100 is a high performance, remote, self-learning Ethernet Bridge that provides 10/100BaseT Ethernet connectivity for the first time in a palm-sized package. Its high throughput makes it an ideal solution for bridging applications over synchronous WAN networks.

Available with a choice of V.24, V.35, V.36, RS-530, or X.21 interfaces for the WAN link, TinyBridge-100 can extend 10/100BaseT Ethernet LANs over synchronous WAN networks common in many office and campus networks. Correspondingly, it can be added to provide bridging functionality to existing synchronous WAN devices such as routers, multiplexers, and modems. TinyBridge-100 fully utilizes the valuable WAN bandwidth, operating at a maximum throughput of 19,700 packets per second, enough to support high bandwidth real-time applications. It supports a maximum packet size of 1,536 bytes, enabling transparent forwarding of VLAN frames.

Perfect for Campus Ethernet LAN Extension

The TinyBridge-100 is also available with a 4-wire interface, including an integrated baseband modem, to enable Fast Ethernet LANs to be extended over 4-wire copper lines at distances up to 700 meters/760 yards. Ideal as a campus LAN extender, the TinyBridge-100’s built-in modem also eliminates the need to invest in additional line drivers.

“Its miniature size and low cost make TinyBridge-100 a perfect “add-on” to existing synchronous WAN equipment,” states Product Line Manager Ramon Horkany, “enabling users to continue to exploit their existing data equipment, as their LANs are upgraded to higher speed Fast Ethernet networks.” Measuring only 69 x 53 x 18 mm (2.7 x 2.1 x 0.7 in.) and weighing only 30 grams (one ounce), it can be easily attached to the office equipment taking up very little space. Installation is plug-and-play and any configuration changes required are performed via seven switches on the panel.

The 10/100BaseT LAN interface operates in full or half duplex modes. Packets are filtered and forwarded at a rate of up to 19,700 packets per second. The LAN interface MAC address table stores up to 2048 addresses, with automatic learning and aging. Additionally, the TinyBridge-100 provides two QoS queues according to 802.1p or IP ToS so that real time applications can receive higher priority.
