RAD Introduces a User-Friendly Basic Network Management System for Element Configuration, Monitoring and Control

RAD announced the introduction of a low-cost SNMP-based management system for the monitoring and configuration of network elements. Integrated into CastleRock Computing’s SNMPc SNMP platform, the new RADview-Lite system provides network monitoring, fault management capabilities and GUI cut-through to ConfiguRAD, RAD’s Web-based element management application.

RADview-Lite is a member of the RADview management platform and is designed for simpler applications where more extensive network management features are not required. “The RADview-Lite software package is significantly less expensive than the RADview-PC version, and even includes license points for managing several network devices, making it right for users with only basic requirements – but still want the convenience of a GUI-driven management platform,” explains Ilan Tevet, Network Management Product Manager at RAD. “The RADview-Lite package cost per managed device amounts to only about two percent of the device’s average price, making it a very affordable solution.”

Fault Management

RADview-Lite monitors the network, detects events and helps isolate problems and minimize network downtime. RADview-Lite supports multiple map levels, enabling graphic display of the hierarchical network topology and color-coded device status changes for easy identification. A problem occurring at a lower level is forwarded to intermediate and upper levels for easy problem detection and isolation. Comprehensive log files of all traps are maintained, including identification of the trap source, event description and date/time stamp. The information in the log is categorized according to severity level, and can be sorted, filtered and exported to file.

Configuration Management

Configuration and diagnostics of individual elements are performed using the ConfiguRAD Web-based element manager, launched directly from the RADview-Lite topology map screen (GUI cut-through) by simply double clicking on the desired network element’s icon. It has a user-friendly menu-driven GUI and allows access to all the configurable parameters, log files and performance information stored in the device.

TFTP-based software and configuration transfer capabilities allow distribution of new software versions or configuration files to multiple network elements simultaneously, while collecting statistics and presenting reports on the process status. Configuration files can also be collected and distributed.
