Optimux-1553 Provides Easy E3/T3 Extension over SDH/SONET Networks with Carrier-Class Reliability

New Terminal Multiplexer Fans Out E3/T3 Services from STM-1/OC-3 Links; Features 1+1 Redundancy on Network Link, Tributary Channels and Power Supply

High Capacity in a Compact, Low-Cost Unit

The Optimux-1553 is a compact 19" wide, 1U-high unit providing connectivity for three E3 or T3 lines. The device complies with all SDH/SONET standards, and interfaces directly with existing SDH/SONET backbones through fiber or coax STM-1/OC-3 links. “The Optimux-1553 is ideal for carriers or alternative service providers that need to fan out lower rate services from SDH/SONET backbones,” states Orly Nahum, Optimux Product Line Manager at RAD Data Communications.

“Carriers can utilize their fiber optic lines much more efficiently by teaming the Optimux-1553 with a DS1 to DS3 mux such as the Optimux-T3, located at a small POP or customer premises to aggregate several individual E1/T1 lines and data onto a single E3/T3 line for transport to the regional SDH/SONET network,” explains Nahum. “Additionally, higher rate E3/T3 services can also be offered directly to the customer.” By combining the high capacity of SONET/SDH ADMs with the simplicity, low cost and small form factor of a terminal multiplexer, Optimux-1553 can dramatically reduce capital and operating expenditures.

Carrier-Class Design, Reliable and Easy to Operate

Designed for the rigorous requirements of carriers and service providers, the Optimux-1553 offers a high level of reliability and serviceability, including 1+1 unidirectional Automatic Protection Switching (APS) redundancy for the STM-1/OC-3 main link and redundancy for the power supply modules. The Optimux-1553 is unique in that 1+1 hardware redundancy is also extended to the three tributary E3/T3 channels. This is accomplished via an optional second, hot-swappable multiplexer card. These features ensure that the Optimux-1553 has no single point of failure, and is fully compatible with carrier class requirements including NEBS Level 3.

Easy to install, maintain and operate, the Optimux-1553 requires little training or expertise. As a plug-and-play unit, it allows carriers to extend the benefits of SDH/SONET networks to the customer premises, or operators to remote sites, in a quick and inexpensive manner.

The Optimux-1551 SDH/SONET Terminal Multiplexer with DS1 level tributary channels complements the Optimux-1553. The compact 19" wide, 2U-high Optimux-1551 provides 63 x E1 or 84 x T1 tributary channels and a single or redundant, fiber or coax STM-1/OC-3 network link. Designed for carriers and service providers, it supports the same full redundancy on all critical components as the Optimux-1553.
