RAD Releases the Market's Most Attractively Priced Central Office Voice Trunking Gateway

Offers Toll Quality Voice Compression of an Entire STM-1 or up to 112 E1s over Seven E1s or Gigabit Ethernet

RAD Data Communications has released its Gmux-2000 central office voice trunking gateway.

“We have engineered the Gmux-2000 to reach a price point that is typically up to 30 percent less than that of the closest competitor, but without excluding any feature required by a carrier-class central office platform,” states Asaf Wachtel, Product Line Manager at RAD Data Communications. “Maintaining toll quality voice, the Gmux-2000 voice trunking gateway can compress an entire STM-1 or up to 112 E1 lines onto as few as seven E1s, which translates to an impressive compression rate of 16:1.”

Facilitates Future Migration to PSNs

But what makes RAD’s Gmux-2000 central office voice trunking gateway truly unique is that it can also transmit compressed voice over Gigabit Ethernet networks, providing quick payback by eliminating costly leased lines. “This Gigabit Ethernet option also positions the Gmux-2000 voice trunking gateway as a one-of-a-kind, future-proof solution because it can continue to be used as the central office migrates to more cost-efficient packet switched networks (PSNs),” adds Wachtel. “It is truly in a class of its own.”

The fully redundant Gmux-2000 central office voice trunking gateway is designed to meet the particular requirements of cellular operators, offshore call centers, long distance service providers, and alternative carriers, all of which can benefit from ongoing lower operating expenses (Opex) and a remarkably fast payback on capital expenses (Capex). The Gmux-2000 platform’s high compression ratio packed into its modest 6U-high chassis reduces co-location costs and frees up valuable rack space, and is especially significant in reducing use of expensive microwave links and non-traffic related Opex.

Modular, Scalable Solution Supports up to 3,472 Voice Channels

The modular, scalable carrier-class Gmux-2000 can be equipped with up to seven voice compression modules, each equivalent to one full Vmux-2100 voice trunking gateway, which can compress up to 16 full E1 lines (496 voice channels) over a single E1 link. Fitted with seven such modules, the Gmux-2000 supports up to 3,472 separate voice channels in the smallest available form factor with no single point of failure.

RAD’s patented TDM over IP (TDMoIP®) technology, implemented in the Gmux-2000 as a multiplexing mechanism, provides a major advantage over voice over IP (VoIP) solutions by enabling a higher compression ratio over long-haul segments while being completely transparent to all existing TDM features. “In contrast with standard VoIP gateways, RAD’s Gmux-2000 solution requires no forklift upgrades in existing networks or any retraining of field technicians,” Wachtel concludes. “With the Gmux-2000, there are no hidden costs waiting down the line.”

Technology Deployed Around the Globe

The Gmux-2000 platform is a high capacity central office version of RAD’s popular Vmux voice trunking gateway. Vmux voice trunking gateways have gained a global reputation as proven, dependable solutions since they were first introduced in 2002, having been deployed in dozens of countries on six continents, from Scandinavia and Siberia to Tierra del Fuego and Tasmania. The Vmux devices are simple to install because they do not require any integration with any other co-located product.
