RAD Cell Site Gateway Named Finalist for Global Mobile Award
23rd January 2008: A unique cellular backhauling device from RAD Data Communications has been named a finalist for a Global Mobile Award at the Mobile World Congress, which will be held next month in Barcelona, Spain.
RAD's LA-130 cell site gateway was cited in the Best Network Quality Initiative category. The LA-130 is the market's first gateway that aggregates 2G, 3G and HSDPA traffic from cell sites and efficiently transports it over cost-effective DSL infrastructure.
An HSDPA user can require the same capacity as over 1,000 2G GSM subscribers, so typical backhaul technology cannot economically sustain anything more than minor HSDPA usage. By employing the LA-130 Tier 1 mobile operators are already cost-effectively sustaining the bandwidth provided by HSDPA without needing to throttle-back data rates.
"The 2008 Global Mobile Awards have once again attracted a widely diverse range of entries from all corners of the world, demonstrating the social, business and economic impact that mobile communications is having on society," stated Rob Conway, CEO of the GSM Association (GSMA). "I congratulate the nominees on their achievement thus far, being shortlisted by our independent judging panel is no mean feat given the calibre of subject matter experts it comprises, and the quality and quantity of submissions received," he concluded. "We await the winners at the Mobile World Congress with keen interest."
